A,B,C,D...EEG, A Father's Journey With His Disabled Son, is the real life story of a young couple, told from the father's perspective, of raising a son with cerebral palsy and temporal lobe epilepsy. It focuses on a layman's viewpoint of a complex medical condition and the toll it takes on a family thrown into a life that no one can prepare for. It relates the heartache and horror as well as the laughter and mayhem that became a part of daily living with a special needs child. In the end, love and perseverence leads them to the Montreal Neurological Hospital where life-changing surgery saves them from facing decisions that no one should ever have to make. A must read for parents of children with disabilities and also those otherwise connected service providers, medical practitioners, extended family and the community in general.

I have just read this book and was taken for an amazing journey through the stories told by the author. All were told with humour and a huge sense of love for his son and family. The chaos and endless drama that Johnny found himself in through no fault of his own, took his parents, siblings, extended family, friends and health care workers through times that were touching, funny and maddening all at the same time! The relentless belief in their son and the future he could have if they could find a doctor to see in Johnny what they did, would change all of their lives, leaving them finally at peace with a loving and happy son. This was a beautiful story that was well written in a style that made you feel the author was just sitting and talking to you in your living room. Autism and the effects on all involved needs to be addressed and families need more support from agencies, medical professionals and the general public. If you or anyone you know has a family member with these sorts of health issues this is a book you must read.
